ONE AYAT A DAY

Surah At-Tin — The Fig

Surah 95 · 8 ayahs · Meccan

Ayah 1

وَالتِّيْنِ وَالزَّيْتُوْنِۙ

Wat-tīni waz-zaitūn(i).

By the fig and the olive

Ayah 2

وَطُوْرِ سِيْنِيْنَۙ

Wa ṭūri sīnīn(a).

And [by] Mount Sinai

Ayah 3

وَهٰذَا الْبَلَدِ الْاَمِيْنِۙ

Wa hāżal-baladil-amīn(i).

And [by] this secure city [i.e., Makkah],

Ayah 4

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ فِيْٓ اَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيْمٍۖ

Laqad khalaqnal-insāna fī aḥsani taqwīm(in).

We have certainly created man in the best of stature;

Ayah 5

ثُمَّ رَدَدْنٰهُ اَسْفَلَ سٰفِلِيْنَۙ

Ṡumma radadnāhu asfala sāfilīn(a).

Then We return him to the lowest of the low,

Ayah 6

اِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَلَهُمْ اَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُوْنٍۗ

Illal-lażīna āmanū wa ‘amiluṣ-ṣāliḥāti falahum ajrun gairu mamnūn(in).

Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted.

Ayah 7

فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعْدُ بِالدِّيْنِۗ

Famā yukażżibuka ba‘du bid-dīn(i).

So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?

Ayah 8

اَلَيْسَ اللّٰهُ بِاَحْكَمِ الْحٰكِمِيْنَ ࣖ

Alaisallāhu bi'aḥkamil-ḥākimīn(a).

Is not Allāh the most just of judges?
