Ayah 1

Ḥā, Meem.

Ayah 2

Tanzīlul-kitābi minallāhil-‘azīzil-‘alīm(i).

The revelation of the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] is from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Knowing,

Ayah 3

Gāfiriż-żambi wa qābilit-taubi syadīdil-‘iqābi żiṭ-ṭaul(i), lā ilāha illā huw(a), ilaihil-maṣīr(u).

The forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination.

Ayah 4

Mā yujādilu fī āyātillāhi illal-lażīna kafarū falā yagrurka taqallubuhum fil-bilād(i).

No one disputes concerning the signs of Allāh except those who disbelieve, so be not deceived by their [uninhibited] movement throughout the land.

Ayah 5

Każżabat qablahum qaumu nūḥiw wal-aḥzābu mim ba‘dihim, wa hammat kullu ummatim birasūlihim liya'khużūhu wa jādalū bil-bāṭili liyudḥiḍū bihil-ḥaqqa fa'akhażtuhum, fa kaifa kāna ‘iqāb(i).

The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.

Ayah 6

Wa każālika ḥaqqat kalimatu rabbika ‘alal-lażīna kafarū annahum aṣḥābun-nār(i).

And thus has the word [i.e., decree] of your Lord come into effect upon those who disbelieved that they are companions of the Fire.

Ayah 7

Allażīna yaḥmilūnal-‘arsya wa man ḥaulahū yusabbiḥūna biḥamdi rabbihim wa yu'minūna bihī wa yastagfirūna lil-lażīna āmanū, rabbanā wasi‘ta kulla syai'ir raḥmataw wa ‘ilman fagfir lil-lażīna tābū wattaba‘ū sabīlaka wa qihim ‘ażābal-jaḥīm(i).

Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those around it exalt [Allāh] with praise of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who have believed, [saying], "Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.

Ayah 8

Rabbanā wa adkhilhum jannāti ‘adninil-latī wa‘attahum wa man ṣalaḥa min ābā'ihim wa azwājihim wa żurriyyātihim, innaka antal ‘azīzul-ḥakīm(u).

Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Ayah 9

Wa qihimus-sayyi'āt(i), wa man taqis-sayyi'āti yauma'iżin faqad raḥimtah(ū), wa żālika huwal-fauzul-‘aẓīm(u).

And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment."

Ayah 10

Innal-lażīna kafarū yunādauna lamaqtullāhi akbaru mim maqtikum anfusakum iż tad‘ūna ilal-īmāni fatakfurūn(a).

Indeed, those who disbelieve will be addressed, "The hatred of Allāh for you was [even] greater than your hatred of yourselves [this Day in Hell] when you were invited to faith, but you disbelieved [i.e., refused]."

Ayah 11

Qālū rabbanā amattanaṡnataini wa aḥyaitanaṡnataini fa‘tarafnā biżunūbinā fa hal ilā khurūjim min sabīl(in).

They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice, and we have confessed our sins. So is there to an exit any way?"

Ayah 12

Żālikum bi'annahū iżā du‘iyallāhu waḥdahū kafartum, wa iy yusyrak bihī tu'minū, fal-ḥukmu lillāhil-‘aliyyil-kabīr(i).

[They will be told], "That is because, when Allāh was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allāh, the Most High, the Grand."

Ayah 13

Huwal-lażī yurīkum āyātihī wa yunazzilu lakum minas-samā'i rizqā(n), wa mā yatażakkaru illā may yunīb(u).

It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except he who turns back [in repentance].

Ayah 14

Fad‘ullāha mukhliṣīna lahud-dīna wa lau karihal-kāfirūn(a).

So invoke Allāh, [being] sincere to Him in religion, although the disbelievers dislike it.

Ayah 15

Rafī‘ud-darajāti żul-‘arsy(i), yulqir-rūḥa min amrihī ‘alā may yasyā'u min ‘ibādihī liyunżira yaumat-talāq(i).

[He is] the Exalted above [all] degrees, Owner of the Throne; He places the inspiration of His command [i.e., revelation] upon whom He wills of His servants to warn of the Day of Meeting.

Ayah 16

Yauma hum bārizūn(a), lā yakhfā ‘alallāhi minhum syai'(un), limanil-mulkul-yaum(a), lillāhil-wāḥidil-qahhār(i).

The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allāh. To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allāh, the One, the Prevailing.

Ayah 17

Al-yauma tujzā kullu nafsim bimā kasabat, lā ẓulmal-yaum(a), innallāha sarī‘ul-ḥisāb(i).

This Day every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today! Indeed, Allāh is swift in account.

Ayah 18

Wa anżirhum yaumal-āzifati iżil-qulūbu ladal-ḥanājiri kāẓimīn(a), mā liẓ-ẓālimīna min ḥamīmiw wa lā syafī‘iy yuṭā‘(u).

And warn them, [O Muḥammad], of the Approaching Day, when hearts are at the throats, filled [with distress]. For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.

Ayah 19

Ya‘lamu khā'inatal-a‘yuni wa mā tukhfiṣ-ṣudūr(u).

He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal.

Ayah 20

Wallāhu yaqḍī bil-ḥaqq(i), wal-lażīna yad‘ūna min dūnihī lā yaqḍūna bisyai'(in), innallāha huwas-samī‘ul-baṣīr(u).

And Allāh judges with truth, while those they invoke besides Him judge not with anything. Indeed, Allāh - He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

Ayah 21

Awalam yasīrū fil-arḍi fayanẓurū kaifa kāna ‘āqibatul-lażīna kānū min qablihim, kānū hum asyaddu minhum quwwataw wa āṡāran fil-arḍi fa'akhażahumullāhu biżunūbihim, wa mā kāna lahum minallāhi miw wāq(in).

Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allāh seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allāh any protector.

Ayah 22

Żālika bi'annahum kānat ta'tīhim rusuluhum bil-bayyināti fakafarū fa'akhażahumullāh(u), innahū qawiyyun syadīdul-‘iqāb(i).

That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allāh seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.

Ayah 23

Wa laqad arsalnā mūsā bi'āyātinā wa sulṭānim mubīn(in).

And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority

Ayah 24

Ilā fir‘auna wa hāmāna wa qārūna faqālū sāḥirun każżāb(un).

To Pharaoh, Hāmān and Qārūn, but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar."

Ayah 25

Falammā jā'ahum bil-ḥaqqi min ‘indinā qāluqtulū abnā'al-lażīna āmanū ma‘ahū wastaḥyū nisā'ahum, wa mā kaidul-kāfirīna illā fī ḍalāl(in).

And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error.

Ayah 26

Wa qāla fir‘aunu żarūnī aqtul mūsā walyad‘u rabbah(ū), innī akhāfu ay yubaddila dīnakum au ay yuẓhira fil-arḍil-fasād(a).

And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption in the land."

Ayah 27

Wa qāla mūsā innī ‘użtu birabbī wa rabbikum min kulli mutakabbiril lā yu'minu biyaumil-ḥisāb(i).

But Moses said, "Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account."

Ayah 28

Wa qāla rajulum mu'min(um), min āli fir‘auna yaktumu īmānahū ataqtulūna rajulan ay yaqūla rabbiyallāhu wa qad jā'akum bil-bayyināti mir rabbikum, wa iy yaku kāżiban fa ‘alaihi każibuh(ū), wa iy yaku ṣādiqay yuṣibkum ba‘ḍul-lażī ya‘idukum, innallāha lā yahdī man huwa musrifun każżāb(un).

And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allāh' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allāh does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.

Ayah 29

Yā qaumi lakumul-mulkul-yauma ẓāhirīna fil-arḍ(i), famay yanṣurunā mim ba'sillāhi in jā'anā, qāla fir‘aunu mā urīkum illā mā arā wa mā ahdīkum illā sabīlar-rasyād(i).

O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allāh if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."

Ayah 30

Wa qālal-lażī āmana yā qaumi innī akhāfu ‘alaikum miṡla yaumil-aḥzāb(i).

And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies -

Ayah 31

Miṡla da'bi qaumi nūḥiw wa ‘ādiw wa ṡamūda wal-lażīna mim ba‘dihim, wa mallāhu yurīdu ẓulmal lil-‘ibād(i).

Like the custom of the people of Noah and of ʿAad and Thamūd and those after them. And Allāh wants no injustice for [His] servants.

Ayah 32

Wa yā qaumi innī akhāfu ‘alaikum yaumat-tanād(i).

And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling -

Ayah 33

Yauma tuwallūna mudbirīn(a), mā lakum minallāhi min ‘āṣim(in), wa may yuḍlilillāhu famā lahū min hād(in).

The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allāh any protector. And whoever Allāh sends astray - there is not for him any guide.

Ayah 34

Wa laqad jā'akum yūsufu min qablu bil-bayyināti famā ziltum fī syakkim mimmā jā'akum bih(ī), ḥattā iżā halaka qultum lay yab‘aṡallāhu mim ba‘dihī rasūlā(n), każālika yuḍillullāhu man huwa musrifum murtāb(un).

And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allāh send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allāh leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic."

Ayah 35

Allażīna yujādilūna fī āyātillāhi bigairi sulṭānin atāhum, kabura maqtan ‘indallāhi wa ‘indal-lażīna āmanū, każālika yaṭba‘ullāhu ‘alā kulli qalbi mutakabbirin jabbār(in).

Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh without an authority having come to them - great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allāh and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allāh seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant.

Ayah 36

Wa qāla fir‘aunu yā hāmānubni lī ṣarḥal la‘allī ablugul-asbāb(a).

And Pharaoh said, "O Hāmān, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways -

Ayah 37

Asbābas-samāwāti fa aṭṭali‘a ilā ilāhi mūsā wa innī la'aẓunnuhū kāżibā(n), wa każālika zuyyina lifir‘auna sū'u ‘amalihī wa ṣudda ‘anis-sabīl(i), wa mā kaidu fir‘auna illā fī tabāb(in).

The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.

Ayah 38

Wa qālal-lażī āmana yā qaumittabi‘ūni ahdikum sabīlar-rasyād(i).

And he who believed said, "O my people, follow me; I will guide you to the way of right conduct.

Ayah 39

Yā qaumi innamā hāżihil-ḥayātud-dun-yā matā‘(un), wa innal-ākhirata hiya dārul-qarār(i).

O my people, this worldly life is only [temporary] enjoyment, and indeed, the Hereafter - that is the home of [permanent] settlement.

Ayah 40

Man ‘amila sayyi'atan falā yujzā illā miṡlahā, wa man ‘amila ṣāliḥam min żakarin au unṡā wa huwa mu'minun fa'ulā'ika yadkhulūnal-jannata yurzaqūna fīhā bigairi ḥisāb(in).

Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account.

Ayah 41

Wa yā qaumi mā lī ad‘ūkum ilan-najāti wa tad‘ūnanī ilan-nār(i).

And O my people, how is it that I invite you to salvation while you invite me to the Fire?

Ayah 42

Tad‘ūnanī li'akfura billāhi wa usyrika bihī mā laisa lī bihī ‘ilmuw wa ana ad‘ūkum ilal-‘azīzil-gaffār(i).

You invite me to disbelieve in Allāh and associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.

Ayah 43

Lā jarama annamā tad‘ūnanī ilaihi laisa lahū da‘watun fid-dun-yā wa lā fil-ākhirati wa anna maraddanā ilallāhi wa annal-musrifīna hum aṣḥābun-nār(i).

Assuredly, that to which you invite me has no [response to a] supplication in this world or in the Hereafter; and indeed, our return is to Allāh, and indeed, the transgressors will be companions of the Fire.

Ayah 44

Fa satażkurūna mā aqūlu lakum, wa ufawwiḍu amrī ilallāh(i), innallāha baṣīrum bil-‘ibād(i).

And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Seeing of [His] servants."

Ayah 45

Fa waqāhullāhu sayyi'āti mā makarū wa ḥāqa bi'āli fir‘auna sū'al-‘ażāb(i).

So Allāh protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment -

Ayah 46

An-nāru yu‘raḍūna ‘alaihā guduwwaw wa ‘asyiyyā(n), wa yauma taqūmus-sā‘ah(tu), adkhilū āla fir‘auna asyaddal-‘ażāb(i).

The Fire; they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment."

Ayah 47

Wa iż yataḥājjūna fin-nāri fayaqūluḍ-ḍu‘afā'u lil-lażīnastakbarū innā kunnā lakum taba‘an fahal antum mugnūna ‘annā naṣībam minan-nār(i).

And [mention] when they will argue within the Fire, and the weak will say to those who had been arrogant, "Indeed, we were [only] your followers, so will you relieve us of a share of the Fire?"

Ayah 48

Qālal-lażīnastakbarū innā kullun fīhā innallāha qad ḥakama bainal-‘ibād(i).

Those who had been arrogant will say, "Indeed, all [of us] are in it. Indeed, Allāh has judged between the servants."

Ayah 49

Wa qālal-lażīna fin-nāri likhazanati jahannamad‘ū rabbakum yukhaffif ‘annā yaumam minal-‘ażāb(i).

And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us a day from the punishment."

Ayah 50

Qālū awalam taku ta'tīkum rusulukum bil-bayyināt(i), qālū balā, qālū fad‘ū, wa mā du‘ā'ul-kāfirīna illā fī ḍalāl(in).

They will say, "Did there not come to you your messengers with clear proofs?" They will say, "Yes." They will reply, "Then supplicate [yourselves], but the supplication of the disbelievers is not except in error [i.e., futility]."

Ayah 51

Innā lananṣuru rusulanā wal-lażīna āmanū fil-ḥayātid-dun-yā wa yauma yaqūmul-asyhād(u).

Indeed, We will support Our messengers and those who believe during the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses will stand -

Ayah 52

The Day their excuse will not benefit the wrongdoers, and they will have the curse, and they will have the worst home [i.e., Hell].

Ayah 53

Wa laqad ātainā mūsal-hudā wa auraṡnā banī isrā'īlal-kitāb(a).

And We had certainly given Moses guidance, and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Scripture

Ayah 54

Hudaw wa żikrā li'ulil-albāb(i).

As guidance and a reminder for those of understanding.

Ayah 55

Faṣbir inna wa‘dallāhi ḥaqquw wastagfir liżambika wa sabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika bil-‘asyiyyi wal-ibkār(i).

So be patient, [O Muḥammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning.

Ayah 56

Innal-lażīna yujādilūna fī āyātillāhi bigairi sulṭānin atāhum, in fī ṣudūrihim illā kibrum mā hum bibāligīh(i), fasta‘iż billāh(i), innahū huwas-samī‘ul-baṣīr(u).

Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh without [any] evidence having come to them - there is not within their breasts except pride, [the extent of] which they cannot reach. So seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Seeing.

Ayah 57

Lakhalqus-samāwāti wal-arḍi akbaru min khalqin-nāsi wa lākinna akṡaran-nāsi lā ya‘lamūn(a).

The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know.

Ayah 58

Wa mā yastawil-a‘mā wal-baṣīr(u), wal-lażīna āmanū wa ‘amiluṣ-ṣāliḥāti wa lal-musī'(u), qalīlam mā tatażakkarūn(a).

And not equal are the blind and the seeing, nor are those who believe and do righteous deeds and the evildoer. Little do you remember.

Ayah 59

Innas-sā‘ata la'ātiyatul lā raiba fīhā, wa lākinna akṡaran-nāsi lā yu'minūn(a).

Indeed, the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - but most of the people do not believe.

Ayah 60

Wa qāla rabbukumud‘ūnī astajib lakum, innal-lażīna yastakbirūna ‘an ‘ibādatī sayadkhulūna jahannama dākhirīn(a).

And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.

Ayah 61

Allāhul-lażī ja‘ala lakumul-laila litaskunū fīhi wan-nahāra mubṣirā(n), innallāha lażū faḍlin ‘alan-nāsi wa lākinna akṡaran-nāsi lā yasykurūn(a).

It is Allāh who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight. Indeed, Allāh is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of them are not grateful.

Ayah 62

Żālikumullāhu rabbukum khāliqu kulli syai'(in), lā ilāha illā huw(a), fa'annā tu'fakūn(a).

That is Allāh, your Lord, Creator of all things; there is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?

Ayah 63

Każālika yu'fakul-lażīna kānū bi'āyātillāhi yajḥadūn(a).

Thus were those [before you] deluded who were rejecting the signs of Allāh.

Ayah 64

Allāhul-lażī ja‘ala lakumul-arḍa qarāraw was-samā'a binā'aw wa ṣawwarakum fa'aḥsana ṣuwarakum wa razaqakum minaṭ-ṭayyibāt(i), żālikumullāhu rabbukum, fatabārakallāhu rabbul-‘ālamīn(a).

It is Allāh who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a structure [i.e., ceiling] and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allāh, your Lord; then blessed is Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

Ayah 65

Huwal-ḥayyu lā ilāha illā huwa fad‘ūhu mukhliṣīna lahud-dīn(a), al-ḥamdu lillāhi rabbil-‘ālamīn(a).

He is the Ever-Living; there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

Ayah 66

Qul innī nuhītu an a‘budal-lażīna tad‘ūna min dūnillāhi lammā jā'aniyal-bayyinātu mir rabbī wa umirtu an uslima lirabbil-‘ālamīn(a).

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allāh once the clear proofs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds."

Ayah 67

Huwal-lażī khalaqakum min turābin ṡumma min nuṭfatin ṡumma min ‘alaqatin ṡumma yukhrijukum ṭiflan ṡumma litablugū asyuddakum ṡumma litakūnū syuyūkhā(n), wa minkum may yutawaffā min qablu wa litablugū ajalam musammaw wa la‘allakum ta‘qilūn(a).

It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term; and perhaps you will use reason.

Ayah 68

Huwal-lażī yuḥyī wa yumīt(u), fa'iżā qaḍā amran fa'innamā yaqūlu lahū kun fa yakūn(u).

He it is who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a matter, He but says to it, "Be," and it is.

Ayah 69

Alam tara ilal-lażīna yujādilūna fī āyātillāh(i), annā yuṣrafūn(a).

Do you not consider those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh - how are they averted?

Ayah 70

Allażīna każżabū bil kitābi wa bimā arsalnā bihī rusulanā, fasaufa ya‘lamūn(a).

Those who deny the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] and that with which We sent Our messengers - they are going to know,

Ayah 71

Iżil-aglālu fī a‘nāqihim was-salāsil(u), yusḥabūn(a).

When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged

Ayah 72

Fil-ḥamīm(i), ṡumma fin-nāri yusjarūn(a).

In boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame].

Ayah 73

Ṡumma qīla lahum aina mā kuntum tusyrikūn(a).

Then it will be said to them, "Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]

Ayah 74

Min dūnillāh(i), qālū ḍallū ‘annā bal lam nakun nad‘ū min qablu syai'ā(n), każālika yuḍillullāhul-kāfirīn(a).

Other than Allāh?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allāh put astray the disbelievers.

Ayah 75

Żālikum bimā kuntum tafraḥūna fil-arḍi bigairil-ḥaqqi wa bimā kuntum tamraḥūn(a).

[The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.

Ayah 76

Udkhlulū abwāba jahannama khālidīna fīhā, fabi'sa maṡwal-mutakabūbirīn(a).

Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant."

Ayah 77

So be patient, [O Muḥammad]; indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned.

Ayah 78

Wa laqad arsalnā rusulam min qablika minhum man qaṣaṣnā ‘alaika wa minhum mal lam naqṣuṣ ‘alaik(a), wa mā kāna lirasūlin ay ya'tiya bi'āyatin illā bi'iżnillāh(i), fa'iżā jā'a amrullāhi quḍiya bil-ḥaqqi wa khasira hunālikal-mubṭilūn(a).

And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allāh. So when the command of Allāh comes, it will be concluded [i.e., judged] in truth, and the falsifiers will thereupon lose [all].

Ayah 79

Allāhul-lażī ja‘ala lakumul-an‘āma litarkabū minhā wa minhā ta'kulūn(a).

It is Allāh who made for you the grazing animals upon which you ride, and some of them you eat.

Ayah 80

Wa lakum fīhā manāfi‘u wa litablugū ‘alaihā ḥājatan fī ṣudūrikum wa ‘alaihā wa ‘alal-fulki tuḥmalūn(a).

And for you therein are [other] benefits and that you may realize upon them a need which is in your breasts; and upon them and upon ships you are carried.

Ayah 81

Wa yurīkum āyātih(ī), fa ayya āyātillāhi tunkirūn(a).

And He shows you His signs. So which of the signs of Allāh do you deny?

Ayah 82

Afalam yasīrū fil-arḍi fa yanẓurū kaifa kāna ‘āqibatul-lażīna min qablihim, kānū akṡara minhum wa asyadda quwwataw wa āṡāran fil-arḍi famā agnā ‘anhum mā kānū yaksibūn(a).

Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than themselves and greater in strength and in impression on the land, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.

Ayah 83

Falammā jā'athum rusuluhum bil-bayyināti fariḥū bimā ‘indahum minal-‘ilmi wa ḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihī yastahzi'ūn(a).

And when their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they [merely] rejoiced in what they had of knowledge, but they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

Ayah 84

Falammā ra'au ba'sanā qālū āmannā billāhi waḥdahū wa kafarnā bimā kunnā bihī musyrikīn(a).

And when they saw Our punishment, they said, "We believe in Allāh alone and disbelieve in that which we used to associate with Him."

Ayah 85

Falam yaku yanfa‘uhum īmānuhum lammā ra'au ba'sanā, sunnatallāhil latī qad khalat fī ‘ibādih(ī), wa khasira hunālikal-kāfirūn(a).

But never did their faith benefit them once they saw Our punishment. [It is] the established way of Allāh which has preceded among His servants. And the disbelievers thereupon lost [all].
