Ayah 1

اَلْحَاۤقَّةُۙ

Al-ḥāqqah(tu).

The Inevitable Reality -

Ayah 2

مَا الْحَاۤقَّةُ ۚ

Mal-ḥāqqah(tu).

What is the Inevitable Reality?

Ayah 3

وَمَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا الْحَاۤقَّةُ ۗ

Wa mā adrāka mal-ḥāqqah(tu).

And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?

Ayah 4

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُوْدُ وَعَادٌ ۢبِالْقَارِعَةِ

Każżabat ṡamūdu wa ‘ādum bil-qāri‘ah(ti).

Thamūd and ʿAad denied the Striking Calamity [i.e., the Resurrection].

Ayah 5

فَاَمَّا ثَمُوْدُ فَاُهْلِكُوْا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ

Fa'ammā ṡamūdu fa uhlikū biṭ-ṭāgiyah(ti).

So as for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].

Ayah 6

وَاَمَّا عَادٌ فَاُهْلِكُوْا بِرِيْحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍۙ

Wa ammā ‘ādun fa'uhlikū birīḥin ṣarṣarin ‘ātiyah(tin).

And as for ʿAad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

Ayah 7

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَّثَمٰنِيَةَ اَيَّامٍۙ حُسُوْمًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيْهَا صَرْعٰىۙ كَاَنَّهُمْ اَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍۚ

Sakhkharahā ‘alaihim sab‘a layāliw wa ṡamāniyata ayyām(in), ḥusūman fataral-qauma fīhā ṣar‘ā, ka'annahum a‘jāzu nakhlin khāwiyah(tin).

Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

Ayah 8

فَهَلْ تَرٰى لَهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَاقِيَةٍ

Fahal tarā lahum mim bāqiyah(tin).

Then do you see of them any remains?

Ayah 9

وَجَاۤءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَنْ قَبْلَهٗ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكٰتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِۚ

Wa jā'a fir‘aunu wa man qablahū wal-mu'tafikātu bil-khāṭi'ah(ti).

And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.

Ayah 10

فَعَصَوْا رَسُوْلَ رَبِّهِمْ فَاَخَذَهُمْ اَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً

Fa ‘aṣau rasūla rabbihim fa akhażahum akhżatar rābiyah(tan).

And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].

Ayah 11

اِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا الْمَاۤءُ حَمَلْنٰكُمْ فِى الْجَارِيَةِۙ

Innā lammā ṭagal-mā'u ḥamalnākum fil-jāriyah(ti).

Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship

Ayah 12

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَّتَعِيَهَآ اُذُنٌ وَّاعِيَةٌ

Linaj‘alahā lakum tażkirataw wa ta‘iyahā użunuw wā‘iyah(tun).

That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.

Ayah 13

فَاِذَا نُفِخَ فِى الصُّوْرِ نَفْخَةٌ وَّاحِدَةٌ ۙ

Fa iżā nufikha fiṣ-ṣūri nafkhatuw wāḥidah(tun).

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

Ayah 14

وَّحُمِلَتِ الْاَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَّاحِدَةًۙ

Wa ḥumilatil-arḍu wal-jibālu fa dukkatā dakkataw wāḥidah(tan).

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -

Ayah 15

فَيَوْمَىِٕذٍ وَّقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُۙ

Fayauma'iżiw waqa‘atil-wāqi‘ah(tu).

Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,

Ayah 16

وَانْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاۤءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَىِٕذٍ وَّاهِيَةٌۙ

Wansyaqqatis-samā'u fahiya yauma'iżiw wāhiyah(tun).

And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

Ayah 17

وَّالْمَلَكُ عَلٰٓى اَرْجَاۤىِٕهَاۗ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَىِٕذٍ ثَمٰنِيَةٌ ۗ

Wal-malaku ‘alā arjā'ihā, wa yaḥmilu ‘arsya rabbika fauqahum yauma'iżin ṡamāniyah(tun).

And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].

Ayah 18

يَوْمَىِٕذٍ تُعْرَضُوْنَ لَا تَخْفٰى مِنْكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ

Yauma'iżin tu‘raḍūna lā takhfā minkum khāfiyah(tun).

That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.

Ayah 19

فَاَمَّا مَنْ اُوْتِيَ كِتٰبَهٗ بِيَمِيْنِهٖ فَيَقُوْلُ هَاۤؤُمُ اقْرَءُوْا كِتٰبِيَهْۚ

Fa ammā man ūtiya kitābahū biyamīnihī fa yaqūlu hā'umuqra'ū kitābiyah.

So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!

Ayah 20

اِنِّيْ ظَنَنْتُ اَنِّيْ مُلٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْۚ

Innī ẓanantu annī mulāqin ḥisābiyah.

Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."

Ayah 21

فَهُوَ فِيْ عِيْشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍۚ

Fa huwa fī ‘īsyatir rāḍiyah(tin).

So he will be in a pleasant life -

Ayah 22

فِيْ جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۙ

Fī jannatin ‘āliyah(tin).

In an elevated garden,

Ayah 23

قُطُوْفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ

Quṭūfuhā dāniyah(tun).

Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.

Ayah 24

كُلُوْا وَاشْرَبُوْا هَنِيْۤـًٔا ۢبِمَآ اَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى الْاَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ

Kulū wasyrabū hanī'am bimā aslaftum fil-ayyāmil-khāliyah(ti).

[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."

Ayah 25

وَاَمَّا مَنْ اُوْتِيَ كِتٰبَهٗ بِشِمَالِهٖ ەۙ فَيَقُوْلُ يٰلَيْتَنِيْ لَمْ اُوْتَ كِتٰبِيَهْۚ

Wa ammā man ūtiya kitābahū bisyimālih(ī), fa yaqūlu yā laitanī lam ūta kitābiyah.

But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record

Ayah 26

وَلَمْ اَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْۚ

Wa lam adri mā ḥisābiyah.

And had not known what is my account.

Ayah 27

يٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَۚ

Yā laitahā kānatil-qāḍiyah(ta).

I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one.

Ayah 28

مَآ اَغْنٰى عَنِّيْ مَالِيَهْۚ

Mā agnā ‘annī māliyah.

My wealth has not availed me.

Ayah 29

هَلَكَ عَنِّيْ سُلْطٰنِيَهْۚ

Halaka ‘annī sulṭāniyah.

Gone from me is my authority."

Ayah 30

خُذُوْهُ فَغُلُّوْهُۙ

Khużūhu fagullūh(u).

[Allāh will say], "Seize him and shackle him.

Ayah 31

ثُمَّ الْجَحِيْمَ صَلُّوْهُۙ

Ṡummal-jaḥīma ṣallūh(u).

Then into Hellfire drive him.

Ayah 32

ثُمَّ فِيْ سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُوْنَ ذِرَاعًا فَاسْلُكُوْهُۗ

Ṡumma fī silsilatin żar‘uhā sab‘ūna żirā‘an faslukūh(u).

Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."

Ayah 33

اِنَّهٗ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ الْعَظِيْمِۙ

Innahū kāna lā yu'minu billāhil-‘aẓīm(i).

Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allāh, the Most Great,

Ayah 34

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلٰى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِيْنِۗ

Wa lā yaḥuḍḍu ‘alā ṭa‘āmil-miskīn(i).

Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.

Ayah 35

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ الْيَوْمَ هٰهُنَا حَمِيْمٌۙ

Fa laisa lahul-yauma hāhunā ḥamīm(un).

So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend

Ayah 36

وَّلَا طَعَامٌ اِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِيْنٍۙ

Wa lā ṭa‘āmun illā min gislīn(in).

Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;

Ayah 37

لَّا يَأْكُلُهٗٓ اِلَّا الْخٰطِـُٔوْنَ ࣖ

Lā ya'kuluhū illal-khāṭi'ūn(a).

None will eat it except the sinners.

Ayah 38

فَلَآ اُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُوْنَۙ

Falā uqsimu bimā tubṣirūn(a).

So I swear by what you see

Ayah 39

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُوْنَۙ

Wa mā lā tubṣirūn(a).

And what you do not see

Ayah 40

اِنَّهٗ لَقَوْلُ رَسُوْلٍ كَرِيْمٍۙ

Innahū laqaulu rasūlin karīm(in).

[That] indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is the word of a noble Messenger.

Ayah 41

وَّمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍۗ قَلِيْلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُوْنَۙ

Wa mā huwa biqauli syā‘ir(in), qalīlam mā tu'minūn(a).

And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.

Ayah 42

وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍۗ قَلِيْلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُوْنَۗ

Wa lā biqauli kāhin(in), qalīlam mā tażakkarūn(a).

Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.

Ayah 43

تَنْزِيْلٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ

Tanzīlum mir rabbil-‘ālamīn(a).

[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

Ayah 44

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْاَقَاوِيْلِۙ

Wa lau taqawwala ‘alainā ba‘ḍal-aqāwīl(i).

And if he [i.e., Muḥammad] had made up about Us some [false] sayings,

Ayah 45

لَاَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِيْنِۙ

La'akhażnā minhu bil-yamīn(i).

We would have seized him by the right hand;

Ayah 46

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ الْوَتِيْنَۖ

Ṡumma laqaṭa‘nā minhul-watīn(a).

Then We would have cut from him the aorta.

Ayah 47

فَمَا مِنْكُمْ مِّنْ اَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حٰجِزِيْنَۙ

Famā minkum min aḥadin ‘anhu ḥājizīn(a).

And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.

Ayah 48

وَاِنَّهٗ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِيْنَ

Wa innahū latażkiratul lil-muttaqīn(a).

And indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder for the righteous.

Ayah 49

وَاِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ اَنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُّكَذِّبِيْنَۗ

Wa innā lana‘lamu anna minkum mukażżibīn(a).

And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.

Ayah 50

وَاِنَّهٗ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى الْكٰفِرِيْنَۚ

Wa innahū laḥasratun ‘alal-kāfirīn(a).

And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.

Ayah 51

وَاِنَّهٗ لَحَقُّ الْيَقِيْنِ

Wa innahū laḥaqqul-yaqīn(i).

And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.

Ayah 52

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيْمِ ࣖ

Fa sabbiḥ bismi rabbikal-‘aẓīm(i).

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
