Surah Al-Infitar — The Cleaving

اِذَا السَّمَاۤءُ انْفَطَرَتْۙ

Iżas-samā'unfaṭarat.

When the sky breaks apart

وَاِذَا الْكَوَاكِبُ انْتَثَرَتْۙ

Wa iżal-kawākibuntaṡarat.

And when the stars fall, scattering,

وَاِذَا الْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْۙ

Wa iżal-biḥāru fujjirat.

And when the seas are erupted

وَاِذَا الْقُبُوْرُ بُعْثِرَتْۙ

Wa iżal-qubūru bu‘ṡirat.

And when the [contents of] graves are scattered [i.e., exposed],

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَاَخَّرَتْۗ

‘Alimat nafsum mā qaddamat wa akhkharat.

A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الْاِنْسَانُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِيْمِۙ

Yā ayyuhal-insānu mā garraka birabbikal-karīm(i).

O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,

الَّذِيْ خَلَقَكَ فَسَوّٰىكَ فَعَدَلَكَۙ

Allażī khalaqaka fa sawwāka fa ‘adalak(a).

Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?

فِيْٓ اَيِّ صُوْرَةٍ مَّا شَاۤءَ رَكَّبَكَۗ

Fī ayyi ṣūratim mā syā'a rakkabak(a).

In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.

كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ بِالدِّيْنِۙ

Kallā bal tukażżibūna bid-dīn(i).

No! But you deny the Recompense.

وَاِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحٰفِظِيْنَۙ

Wa inna ‘alaikum laḥāfiẓīn(a).

And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,

كِرَامًا كٰتِبِيْنَۙ

Kirāman kātibīn(a).

Noble and recording;

يَعْلَمُوْنَ مَا تَفْعَلُوْنَ

Ya‘lamūna mā taf‘alūn(a).

They know whatever you do.

اِنَّ الْاَبْرَارَ لَفِيْ نَعِيْمٍۙ

Innal-abrāra lafī na‘īm(in).

Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,

وَّاِنَّ الْفُجَّارَ لَفِيْ جَحِيْمٍ

Wa innal-fujjāra lafī jaḥīm(in).

And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.

يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ الدِّيْنِ

Yaṣlaunahā yaumad-dīn(i).

They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,

وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَاۤىِٕبِيْنَۗ

Wa mā hum ‘anhā bigā'ibīn(a).

And never therefrom will they be absent.

وَمَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّيْنِۙ

Wa mā adrāka mā yaumud-dīn(i).

And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

ثُمَّ مَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّيْنِۗ

Ṡumma mā adrāka mā yaumud-dīn(i).

Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِّنَفْسٍ شَيْـًٔا ۗوَالْاَمْرُ يَوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلّٰهِ ࣖ

Yauma lā tamliku nafsul linafsin syai'ā(n), wal-amru yauma'iżil lillāh(i).

It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allāh.
